I provide reference services to patrons on the phone and in person. I prepare book displays, bibliographies and resource guides, highlighting collections and services. I lead and coordinate the programs, working with outside organizations as well as with other Chicago Public Library departments. I write staff picks and am a current blogger for Chicago Public Library.

From the circulation and reference desks, I issued library cards, checked out materials, renew, placed holds, and provided reference services. I supervised adult computer users and assisted in troubleshooting technology. I represented the library at a variety of community outreach events, selected books and organized topical displays for adults, and led public programming for the West Humboldt Park community.
Exhibit Design Intern

I developed a physical collection of artifacts and papers pertaining to the history of the school mascot Herky the Hawk, including Dick Spencer III’s original illustrations of the mascot. I researched and surveyed pertinent holdings, selected content, created text, designed, and installed the exhibit at the University of Iowa Main Library. I wrote blog posts for the Special Collections blog and was interviewed by local press about the exhibit. I also introduced the “Hatching Herky” exhibit and conducted tours at the opening event, in which attendees included donors, the president of University of Iowa, and the general public. My exhibit was converted into a traveling exhibit, touring the United States for 2 years, appearing at various Hawkeye events.

During my work in Community and Access Services, I checked in and shelved library material, and I paged materials requested by patrons. I created displays based on the community’s needs and had weekly shifts on the help desk. I regularly volunteered for community support projects, such as working a library card booth at the public school open house, or participating in the homecoming parade. I curated the exhibition “Keepers of the Collection” for the Ellen Buchanan Children Room in the fall of 2017, to highlight personal collections of librarians.

As the graduate assistant of the Project on Rhetoric of Inquiry (POROI) online journal, I act as the technical manager working to inclusively format the articles prior to publication, and act as a liaison between the editor, the authors, and the readers. I work with editing the HTML of previous issues, managing the journal’s Twitter account, and maintaining the listerv using MailChimp. I also created the Graduate Student Handbook for future technical editors and wrote a grant proposal to redesign our website.

On Hack Library School, I wrote monthly articles and contributed to weekly blog posts about my professional and personal experiences as a graduate student, in order to help other students navigate their own programs. Digital Preservation Lead

In conjunction with the Iowa Digital Library and the collections department of the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, I scanned glass plate slides of scientific expeditions ranging from the 1890’s to the 1930’s. I worked with metadata regarding the slides on FileMakerPro, and I researched the history of the expeditions. I trained a team of volunteers on digitization techniques.
